Tactile Book using Clay as a Medium for Animal Recognition for Blind Children
The tactile book "Hewan Apa Itu?" is a Visual Communications BA graduation project that encompasses research, concept creation, story writing, design, and the handmade production of the model

Inspired by the limitations and inaccessibility of tactile books for blind children, especially young ones, this project aims to create a comprehensive book that addresses their needs more effectively.
This book consists of shapes, textures, Braille, colors, and sizes.
The design of this tactile book is expected to be able to help the visually impaired in absorbing and understanding overall information in one hand, training motor and sensory abilities and making the learning process more enjoyable for young children.
The tactile book includes six animals—chicken, cat, bird, mouse, goat, and starfish—chosen based on their accessibility and presence in easily accessible environments.
Regarding the content and design of the book, it was created based on data collected through interviews, observations, and direct media tests with the subjects.

Typography and colors are chose based on the legibility and readability such as contrast, font size and type, and letter-spacing.

The layout consists of two sides: the left side for text, which includes alphabets and Braille, and the right side for clay objects representing the body of the animals. Both the text and objects are placed in the center to facilitate easy access for blind children.

Not only can children without visual impairments enjoy reading and exploring this book, but children with low vision can also use it.

This is the outer box of the tactile book.
